Meaningful Use of Assessment Tools in Early Childhood Mental Health:

    • Early Childhood Service Intensity (ECSII)

    • Child & Adolescent Intensity Instrument (CASII)

    • Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)

    • Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) Training

This 2-day training focuses on administration, interpretation, and meaningful use of assessments used as part of early childhood diagnostic assessments. While these tools are required outcome measures to be used with all children receiving mental health services paid for through Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) or CMH Early Childhood Infrastructure Grants, they inform clinicians during the diagnostic assessment process.

The ECSII and the CASII are standardized tools for caretakers of children 0-17 with emotional, behavioral, and/or developmental needs—including children who are experiencing environmental stressors that may put them at risk for such problems—and their families. The ECSII and CASII provide a common language for diverse individuals and offers guidance in selecting appropriate services at the appropriate intensity. The SDQ and CBCL are tools used to measure symptom impact. Together, the tools inform clinicians along the golden thread from diagnosis to treatment.
